Poitou-Charentes
The western coastlands of France are rich agricultural areas famous for fields of sunflowers, local Foie Gras and Truffles. Many of the towns in the area provide evidence of long history stretching back to Roman times and including relics of the hundred years war. The area also boasts Cognac, many a pleasant afternoon can be spent sampling their world famous product. The area also has an abundance of waterways and navigable marches. Hire a flat bottomed boat at Marais Poitevin to explore further. If you prefer the ocean, the Atlantic beaches of Royan offer fine sand with all the traditional resort attractions.
