Bourgogne (Burgundy)
The Bourgogne is France’s richest province, not only economically but culturally, gastronomically and historically. Dijon is a great place to explore first to get a feel for the region. The Place de la Liberation has recently been pedestrianised and you can enjoy a petit verre overlooking the Palais des Ducs. There are many fine examples of decoratively tiled roofs and some great restaurants. Wine lovers should travel south from Dijon to Beaune through the Code d’Or. The Route de Grand Vin takes you through all the great wine villages including Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuit-St-Georges. There are also plenty of tasting and buying opportunities.
