Picardie

Running through the heart of Picardy is the Vallee de la Somme. The World War 1 battlefields and memorials provide powerful and important insights into 20th century history. Contrasting the memories of war, the Somme also offers considerable beauty and peace, the wetlands are home to abundant wildlife and there are many walking, boating and fishing opportunities. Amiens is the capital of Picardy and home of the largest cathedral in France which dates back to 1220. Further south the grand chateaux at Compiegne and Chantilly deserve a visit.
